Cocktails from a Long Hiatus

By Sola Onitiri

Hi, it’s me. Ya girl that went MIA for two years.

So, it’s been a minute.

Ok, that’s underselling it and then some. I took quite the extended break from blogging (more on that eventually) but I did want to peek my head into my slice of this large, chaotic internet to share what I’ve been up to.

I helped open up a brewery, where I happily serve as the general manager. Wild right? Triple Bottom Brewing is located in Philadelphia and I helped build a beautiful taproom that has a social mission that’s changing the beer scene and hopefully one day the world.

We just celebrated our first year there and I’ve been able to learn SO much about beer. But I also got to flex some of my cocktail making skills in order to create a humble cocktail menu for a bustling taproom.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, our sunny taproom is not operating the same way it was before. But we’re still kicking!

Either way, I thought this would be a great opportunity to share some of the cocktails I created for Triple Bottom, myself, and some friends I’ve made along the way.

Here are the five cocktails I’ve made during my very long hiatus from blogging.

The perfect summer gin cocktail

Let’s Do The Thyme Warp Again…

The Thyme warp is a delightful summer refresher with some kick to it. Bluecoat Gin is at its best with thyme syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice and topped with Jamaican ginger beer.

Chai life forever

Ol’ Fashioned

This Old Fashioned is quickly becoming a staple in the taproom. Toasted orange peel & Chai syrup replaces traditional demerara for a cozy but not too heavy Old-I mean Ol’ Fashioned.

Guava Fizz

Have you ever made something so simple but so spot on that it makes you face palm yourself? That’s the Guava Fizz for me. I created this cocktail for the second volume of Triple Bottom Supper Club. The menu executed perfectly by Chef Sandy Trinh and Thu Pham of Càphê Roasters was a modern Vietnamese delight. This cocktail has gin, guava juice, lime and is topped of by sparkling white wine and mint for a bubbly and aromatic treat. It went perfectly with the scallop salad with lotus rootlet slaw.

Winter cocktails that are delicious and easy to make

The Porter Latte

This is technically a beer cocktail, but just think of the bourbon possibilities. This is the newest addition to our brunch (Yes! Brunch! Remember brunch!) cocktail list. A sweet way to drink our roasty, toasty, 8% chocolaty baltic porter. I mix in coconut milk, cold brew and top with whipped cream.
