Fall 2018 Trends - The Quintessential 90's Tomboy

Do you hear that? That distinct sound of flannel flapping in the breeze whilst (yes whilst) your suede heels crunch the leaves below. Are you feeling the apple spiced fantasy of fall yet? Because I am. We've soldiered through a particularly sweltering summer so I like to think that we've earned a new fall wardrobe or at the very least every pumpkin product Starbucks will throw at us god damn it.
If you can recall, last fall here at Let's Get Going, was all about decadence. Doing the most and being extra with a capital 'E' was all the rage for me. My life now is significantly different. A quarter way through my six-month vision quest across America, my priorities can't really accommodate extra. I've got two bags, limited space, and absolutely no willpower to cover ground in clothes that aren't functional. I'm not going to lie, this feels like the end of an era. But the one thing that remains eternal in my life and on this site, is the philosophy that fashion and function should always go hand in hand.
With that being said, let's talk about this fall 2018 trend wave. Despite my step back from maximal-ism, the fashion industry is diving in head first due to the resurgence of the late 80's and early 90's trends. So, look out for sneaker dress parings, layered corduroy, rainbow tights, slouchy boots, prairie inspired midi dresses, over-sized coats, and a little thing the fashion industry calls Logomania.
Remember when people used to walk around with shirts that just said The Gap, like that was some profound fashion statement? Well, everything old is new again. Logomania is the ultimate 90's throwback of dressing like Times Square billboards. This second life of Logomania has me in the troughs of nostalgia. And being a 90's kid isn't helping either.
This fall, I'm taking a page from some of my favorite 90's movie/TV heroines. They were tough, they were sporty and they were a welcomed addition to any ragtag group of kids trying to save their town/win the game from evil blondes. Fall 2018's fashion aesthetic is a flashback to the minimalism that only "tomboys" can serve. It's oversized denim and corduroy matched with a Phillies shirt and hat. And if (that's a big if) they're wearing a dress, its in the last scene of the movie where they smooch their crush. But let's be real, they still had a pair of sneakers on. Below are some of my favorite 90's tomboys and my mood board for Fall 2018 fashion trends.
