The Dresses That Will Help You Survive Summer Wedding Season In Style
By Sola Onitiri
Nothing says summer like the realization that you have to look presentable at a ceremony where everything needs to pristine for pictures. Yeah, folks, I’m talking about that mini fashion season called summer weddings. Dressing for Wedding Season is interesting because there are some unspoken rules that we all must adhere to. You know the one’s I’m talking about - don’t wear white, avoid lace, and never (ever) try and upstage the bride. Even though it might be someone else's wedding, it doesn’t mean that you to rock the homely always the bridesmaid look. Here are three dresses that you’ll need this summer for all of that crying, photo booth picture taking, and aptly named cocktail drinks you’re going to experience for the rest of the summer.
The Beach Wedding
When it comes to attending a beach wedding, the first thing you’re going to want to keep in mind is your hem length (Remember: nature is not on your side here). Not to be a nun about it but, it is important that your dress passes the finger-tips and the wind test. You really don’t want to be remembered as the girl with the yellow polka dot bikini cut Victoria secrets underwear at a friends wedding. Well, not until you’ve had a few at the open tiki bar.

The Swanky Hotel Wedding
Is it okay to wear black to a wedding? Answer: You bet your black-clad buns it is. For a swanky black tie wedding, pulling out a floor length black gown is completely appropriate. Bearing in mind the heat and the summer's top trends, I would recommend a slip dress with teardrop earrings and a classic red lip. It’s perfect for being classy and a little bit sassy. If you don't feel like black, think metallics.
Also Perfect For: Artsy weddings, vow renewals, nighttime weddings, non-religious weddings, Commitment Ceremonies
The Party Wedding
Now here is a wedding that you couldn't wait to RSVP 'Yes' to. The Party Wedding is exactly the time to dust off that "When will I ever wear this" dress. The Party Wedding dress can be sexy but remember to be respectful of the service or cultures represented at the ceremony. So be flashy enough to get the best man's number, but not so flashy that the mother of the bride has to sit you down for talk at the open bar.

If you're anything like me, being anywhere near a farm isn't really your jam, but for a close family friend, you’re willing to step foot in what will be a wedding straight from a moderately internet-famous Pinterest Board, no matter what it smells like. For this rustic Pinterest wedding, think vintage. Feel free to go with a more casual fabric and a 70s inspired pattern. Leave the open-toe stilettos at home and swap them for a fun chunky sandal. Go with a natural, dewy makeup look and a statement clutch.
